31st August 2011

After school we had the last module of the leadership workshop. Which was damn sad. It was on conflict management and public speaking skills. We played fun word games where one group is supposed to start a story by saying 5 words, and the other group has to continue the story with 5 words too, so on and so forth until the story comes to an end. We had alot of laughter as illicit content was utilised. It ended at around 7.40pm, and then AC people headed down to hall for teacher's day rehearsal. Was pretty high all the while and i was given a clear idea as to what i was to be in for the following day. The sky was really dark, jiawen took a video of our dance too. We ended at around 9.30pm and went back home to rest.

1st September 2011.

Teacher's day celebrations are today, after so much preparation, its coming down to today to give a good laugh a good performance and a memorable day for teachers and students alike. Wasn't quite a good start to my day though, had to go to toilet in the morning :/. Almost late for school and had to run too to prevent being late too. Went up to the hall at 8 to meet the others and prepared for my time as a game host. As a game host i didn't do much but was glad to standby and let David run the show, he did a great job! Although i felt i could have helped him a little bit more rather than running about the hall giving the mike for guesses. But it was quite fun. After the photos and teacher's quiz i ended this part and headed back stage to prepare with AC while drama presented their performance. AC was fun, i was initially afraid i would forget my lines, but the help of a small slip of paper containing my lines kept me in the loop. I tried to avert my nervousness by not looking into the crowd but after awhile i just wanted to give a good laugh to the audience. I think it was quite an entertaining performance given though! then headed backstage and rushed to change as i prepared for dance. Watched the others give a smashing performance on Hello before diving into the spotlight, albeit very nervously. Somehow i got the flow of it and the dance became more fluid. I minimused my error which was fortunate and we gave a great performance overall. Packed up then and left for YZPS with denyse and Wen zhi. Met with Wye kit and the others at NEX outside subway and we went to opposite school kopitiam to eat. Then we headed in YZPS to talk to some teachers. This time i only recognised but 4 teachers, mr antz, ms chew and ms law and ms ... oops i forgot... but remember her face. Things changed so much. After being chased off we went to the steps to sit and catch up and slack until 3pm when Mr Antz came down. We chatted with him for 10 mins before leaving for home.

September 2nd 2011.
Went to David's house for rehearsal for old folks home performance...

September 3rd 2011.
CG outing! Went to Jo-anne's house to bake a mango yoghurt cake first, which was delicious and my first cake that i helped to bake. Then went to Joash's house, where he cooked awesome pasta and onion soup that was extremely delicious.

Morning went to play basketball wif kaw chun and his church friends at thomson cc. We first met at monfort macs then kaw chuns friend peter kindly drove us there. So yea had my first sight of the cc, it was arnd the bishan area. We played 3v3 among oirselves first followed by 4v4 with the public. Peter gave us a lift to serangoon too! Returned at 12 to study until 3. Mum gave me coconut juice which was extremely palatable too! Then at 3pm left for esplanade. I origijally though it was at expo. Fortunately i turned back in time and didnt go too off route. Reached suntec convention centre at around 350. It was amazingly crowded to the extent that they had to regulate customers moving upthr escalators. When i finally arrived at level 6 met up with eunise Aderic and jacky after some confusion. We headed in again to view some products, mostly headphones and phone accessories after all. Saw a plethora of gadgets and accessories that were intriguing and intrresting. There were car handphones, mp3 costing just 10 dollars and more, it was a galore for those with a strong penchant for sales. I discovered that it was the last day of the fair, explaining the humongous crowd. we looked around at the variety for about 2 hours. I bought A usb adapter to powerpoint for my ipod. At a partiular store which i purchased the latter from we decided to have some fun. First i removed the price tag and then asked for the price and tried to bargain the orginal 9 to 7 dollArs. Although it didnt succeed it was a cause for much laughter and we had alot of fun overall. Near the end we went to level 4 to check out the cameras before splitting up at 6.30. Took mrt home and watched i am legrnd. Great day!

27th August 2011

Went to church for like a leadership course conducted by Andrew Kwan. Spent the first half of the day studying and also on com with ka wee. Then i left for church at around 3.30 and reached at 4. It was actually a fun session with some lessons learnt and more ideas spawned. First we learnt that we shouldn't be a victim in life and complain, justify or put blame onto others. We played 2 games, first game was involving rungs of twine. The big aim was to basically move the whole congregation between 2 huge rungs within 2 seconds. We solved the problem by elongating the rungs till they will like columns only and placing them side by side. Then we sat on them and placed our legs on the opposite rung facing us. On the count we retracted our legs into our own rungs, and we successfully completed it in 1.3 seconds! Problem solving at its best.

Then we had another game called crossing the river. The gameplay and concept was almost the same as Hot chocolate river used in AC. But this time we used chairs as 'magical stones' to cross the river instead. But ultimately at the end of the game, we were let in on the truth: We could have completed any distance possible, as long as we worked together, like 2 groups combined chairs to complete the challenge, after all he did not say that we couldn't do it. So thus he let us in on one of the most important aspects of teamwork: You can move fast when u move alone, but u cant move far, unless u go in a group.

Somehow i think i can put these lessons to good use in my life.

Studied in the morning from 12 to 1+. Then headed to somerset MRT to meet Fred and Ahmad for parkour. Me and Fred came up to view skateboarders in action first. Then when ahmad arrived at around 3 we headed up to level 4 of scape to begin our first insights into the fascinating and alluring world of Parkour. We paid up at the counter, feeling quite awkward at first because we were in unfamiliar environment, but having gone through the formalities of being introduced to our instructors and the basic itinerary, adrenaline took over. Our awkwardness level decreased with each successful vault over the barrier, which was a road barrier basically. We learnt several styles of vaulting, with the likes of a lazy vault, a speed vault, 2 handed vault and the convault. The convault was particularly difficult for me because i could not control my body well enough, i was afraid to slam my knee into the barrier. At first i was on high and i was vaulting with full power and speed, achieving much distance and admiration, but it was quickly turned down with injuries. Halfway through vaulting, we became bored and took to the flips instead, i tried to do flips for the first time in my life and it was absolutely thrilling. The feeling of floating and turning through the air was pure pumping adrenaline. I used the springboard for once too and i punched off with full power, slamming off the board with huge distance. People were impressed and i was quite full, in fact too full of myself. On a jump, i took off the springboard with full power and landed almost off the safety mat, slamming my left foot into the ground and racking up a blue black on my heel and toe. The dull pain followed me through the day. Then people suggested that i did not require the springboard because i had the jump to complete the front flip. So i tried it. I think i was quite good at it, but there was still much room to improve on, for one i had to control my flipping motion through the air and bring down my body with both arms, however i was only bringing down with a single arm, turning my body sideways and not allowing me to have a firm proper landing. I tried for a bit more until it was quite tiring and we returned to the parkour station. My worst fear came through, running up to a convault, i slammed my kneee into the barrier instead of successfully bringing it over, the whole barrier crashed down and acute pain shot through my knee, crippling me for about 20 mins and rendering me unable to bend my knee for the next 2 days. It hurt absolutely, because of that moment i think my adrenaline dripped off and i went back into my shell because of the pain. I tried to do parkour once again after that, but i strained my groin muscle instead, at first minorly. But a powered tic tac ended it all at 6.30. I could not even walk properly as i feel my groin strained to the extent that i was not able to lift my knee for 3 seconds. I limped back home, licking my wounds and praying for a quick recovery. I thought that i pulled my groin muscle, but i was to be wronged in the next few days, either that or God placed his miraculous healing hand on me. :)
Overall an exciting day with much opportunities, but just incurred several injuries that might cripple me. Returned home and memorised my teacher's day rehearsal scripts, of which i had 2.

Then stayed up until late to see the presidential elections result. Was quite thrilling, but in the end tony tan was announced the winner, to some disappointment, because then there will be no change.

29th august 2011
Teachers day rehearsal in school! Woke up at 7am and reached school at 8am just in time to meet nerissa, david and joey plus the MCs for a short briefing first. We were introduced to what the game was going to be like and more. as well as being handed the action plan. At 9pm the rest of the people started streaming in, mainly drama, AC11, and the Unknown. We had a short briefing and then was given a break to rehearse our lines before performing on stage. We were quite high and hurled paper balls at each other outside the science staff room. Then we headed up to the hall to begin the actual rehearses. Tried being a game host for once and it seemed really awkward as i didnt really know what i had to say. Then drama put on a skit, which was on the life of a teacher last time i think. Then performed with AC and it was an imba fun and funny time! finally performed with Unknown for lucifer. I needa do better on the actual day though. Rehearsed the whole thing one more time then we were dismissed at 1.15. Stayed back with Aderic, gillian and cindy to wait for Nerissa for the whole thing to end before she could be dismissed. Waited until 2+, which i slept some time away, then we went to NEX KFC for lunch. I ate meltz + 1 wing. Then we chatted. Then walked around NEX and went to popular, i bought a screen protector and some pen refills for stationery needs. Walked around for a little while more then i went back to rest. At night went out with mum bro and jamie to NEX again. Ate Lai LAi and then walked around at NTUC to purchase some stuff and biscuits.

Been hectic fun days at this few days!

26th August 2011.
For the first time in a really long time there wasn't CCA on a Friday, and i wasn't planning to waste such a good opportunity anytime soon! Got back some of my results today. And i was quite happy with them, but i am more worried for the current issues, like A maths Trigo, which i completely do not understand, starting from chapter 6, gonna have a huge problem if i don't catch up soon. So yea, after school me, hong xiang, hong wei, marcus tan, clarence and Joshua went to eat buffet at Shabu-sushi at Hougang mall. And it was a blast. It only costs $12.80, cause weekday and student price. So yea at first the bus stop was imba crowded cause most schools were released at that time and people crowded for the bus. After a few mins of discussion and contemplation, we concluded that incoming buses will not be accessible due to the throngs of people, and we would have to wait for 3-4 buses before the bus stop will be clear enough for boarding a bus. Hence we walked all the way to Hougang mall and chatted on the way. It was gonna be an awesome day. The journey took us slightly less than 20 mins and we arrived with much enthusiasm and empty stomaches. Taking our places immediately, we ordered our first dishes - sushi. we originally ordered 36, but due to a breakdown in communication we received only 20 sushis, and after a tremendous amount of time. Hence we started off with our hotpots first. I took a slow approach this time, as i wanted to enjoy it as much as possible, and started off with light stuff like tang hun and a little beef. I did not cram food this time but took my time about consuming. We were done in after about 1.5 hours. So we started to play truth and dare but it didn't really took off, still everyone had a great time and there were funny jokes in between that split our sides too. We arrived at 1.30 and left at 3.20. Towards the end i ravaged 3 ice creams and 3 bowls of cheng teng, it was delicious and palatable. Paid our bill and left. Me and Joshua took 147 back to XMS and we departed ways there. Headed to David's house for practise for our old folk's home night, scheduled to be on 10 December at night, we were going to sing Tong Hua. Hence so there i heard some nice songs which i am going to listen to when i return back. Arrived at 4pm and ate alot of David's gingerbread cookies, which was delicious and mouth-watering. Left at 5.40pm and took 109 back with Wen Zhi and Qi Xuan. Rushed back home for a game of DOTA with Ivan, Zun Cheng, Kaw Chun and Randy. Had my first hand at playing Sand King and it was quite a fun character to use. Had fun throughout the whole day then. Awesome.

Topic: These days, students study only to attain paper achievements, and not to gather knowledge on their own accord. What is your views?

Learning is an innate human desire to gather information from his surroundings to satisfy his curiosity towards the unknown. It was this desire that has sparked mankind's gradual progression from a cave-living being to the kings guarding our Earth today. From archaeological findings consolidated over years of research, we discover the journey of man. In the early days of our first existence, man lived on raw meat and fruits of trees. But it was our desire for a better life that early man slowly gathered information on accomplishing survival procedures more efficiently. Thus we emerged into the age of hunters and gatherers, where man used weapons like sharp sticks to hunt wild game for food for survival.
Returning closer to our familiar generation, in the 1900s, we can infer several excellent examples of learning and experimenting not for the sake of qualifications, but to achieve betterment for all mankind. Take for example the Wright Brothers. They painstakingly experimented and studied aerodynamics, all for a belief that was refuted by professors of their time: To design and build a vehicle that will carry man through the air for considerable distances. Their purpose? To improve travel efficiency between long-distanced travels, for the benefit and further development of mankind. It was the explicit display of learning not for achieving paper qualifications only, but for improving humankind's welfare.

Sadly, this innate wish for learning for humankind has diminished greatly. with the emergence of rote and controlled learning, distinct of our 21st century generation, which we must endure under our 10 years of basic education, this desire has been diluted with the pressure from society to learn only knowledge that the job sector require, in order to achieve paper qualifications to secure a well-paying job that ensures stability and handsome money. With the skyrocketing increase in our world population, there is also an increased number of job-seekers each year craving for a part of the employment pie, this mounting competition in turn increases pressure which our parents and teachers heap on us to achieve our degrees, honours, masters or even PHds to increase the chance of landing a high-paying occupation which offers attractive pecuniary gains. This is no phenomenon, and the pressure will not dissipate but rather escalate with the emergence of a more advanced education system in previously less developed countries of India and China, vastly increasing the number of graduates eligible for executive jobs in the international market. Thus, the desire and pressure for us to attain a satisfying career has redefined our approach towards education, from the want to attain new knowledge for our own curiosity, to the need to achieve paper qualifications for job applications. Gone by were the days of great innovation in the 20th century whereby the rising wish for a better society which everyone can enjoy saw backward countries reliant on agriculture for nourishment transform into grand cities with towering skyscrapers and industrial factories producing not only daily necessities, but luxuries to even the common man, all in just less than a century.

Today I read the magazine:
Broader Perspectives: The Dark Side Of The World.

I opened the magazine with little more intention then to improve my understanding of the English Language. However, the contents inside brought me deeper in my understanding and perception of our world dramatically. The articles of the magazine featured one main topic: The ins-and-outs of Organised Crime in our modern society.

But what was most disturbing, was the report that 2.5 million people have been illegally trafficked for a host of inhuman purposes: Forced labour, the sex industry being just a few examples in the long list of atrocities. How can someone be driven to such an unhuman and callous extent as to treat a fellow human as an item and a source of income. It is indeed perplexing as to how deep and dark are the innermost nature of us humans can be. It is a crime not only against laws, but also against humanity itself.
And the diabolic worsens. It is indeed a disgrace to humans that the term 'disposable' people has to be coined to describe victims who are exploited extensively without a short period of time and then abandoned on the streets to fend for their livelihoods after they have served their purpose of delivering income or labour to their unfeeling captors.
It is not possible to describe in measure the atrocities of these felonious individuals with words alone, their crime and sin can only be justified by corporal punishment, for the damage they have created to the innocents are immeasurable.

It does not end here. Egocentric individuals in the medical profession have cut corners in the production of healthcare products, resulting in bogus and lethal medicine that are no more than poisons, and to disastrous effect with the deaths of thousands of innocent victims, just because of a pecuniary desires. For example, in the Panama Cough Syrup scandal, an actual ingredient of the medicine, glycerine was exchanged for the nephrotoxic diethylene. The result? 365 innocent peopl became casualties, and many more were scarred for life.

All these facts report the darkest side of our human being, the choice to abandon the basic laws of human nature just for monetary gains. While it is difficult to vision how people can commit such a humanitarian crime, it is controversial to announce the root of the problem: Ourselves. Organised crime exists for a reason: To achieve profits illegally by appealing to us consumer's desires. Be it for pleasure or for percuniary gains, it does not change the hard truth that we ourselves are the root of this rising and troubling enigma. I will explain this hard-to-swallow claim in the following paragraph.

Like all businesses, Organised crime is run on just one intention: To gain profits, just through means not approved by the law.
And what better by appealing to our inner desires, be it for sexual or personal pleasure, by providing consumers with sexual services, drugs, illegal arms, organs and endangered species'. It is because we succumb to these services and provide them with handsome monetary gains in exchange that we are fuelling the wheels of a worldwide problem. No amount of laws, restrictions, penalties and security will be able to cripple the international syndicates, but only if we resist to succumbing to funding these organisations. Without demand for these illegal services, syndicates are unable to operate and thus will gradually diminish into non-exsistence. Indeed, these atrocities committed against mankind itself has ironically arose from us ourselves only.

I urge everyone who may be reading this, young and old, rich or poor, to never ever concede to these forbidden services offered by these callous criminals, to do so would be akin to supporting these illegal syndicates itself. Stop it today, take a stand against crime.
